PROMOTION RELEGATION FOR 2007
David Lines, League Secretary

WEST END ESHER CC - HAVE RESIGNED:-

West End Esher
2002 - 2007

As you no doubt know, two weeks ago West End Esher CC tendered their resignation from our League with effect from next season.

Although they did not strictly conform to the League Rule 8 ( notice to leave must be received by April 1st) their resignation has been accepted and we wish them well for the future.

The League Executive has not been slow in making contact with two Clubs with a view to filling the two vacancies which occur. It is hoped that full details will be available at the next League Meeting on August 15th.

However plans have had to be made in the event of starting next season without a full compliment of sides, and this may well have an effect on the promotion and relegation at the end of the season. The Officers discussed other options in terms of numbers of teams promoted/relegated in each division, including some that would have involved no relegation from some divisions, but this is the plan agreed on to preserve the principle of there being promotion and relegation between all divisions.

In all cases Clubs are reminded of League Rule 3 - subject to the proviso that no Division shall have 2 teams from the same Club.

We feel that as there are still several games to be played all Clubs should be made aware of the situation which may well occur and we can not leave it untill all matches have been played at the end of the League season.

Below are full details showing how this will be implemented.

If we can recruit two new teams then the Leagues will remain - Div 1-10 teams Div 2-10 teams Div 3-10 teams and Div 4 -10 teams

If we can recruit one new team then the Leagues will be - Div 1-10 teams Div 2-10 teams Div 3-10 teams and Div 4 - 9 teams

If we can recruit no new teams then the Leagues will be - Div 1-10 teams Div 2-10 teams Div 3- 9 teams and Div 4 - 9 teams

All new teams will enter the League in Division 4.

This will require the following changes to be implemented regarding promotion and relegation for this season -

Division 1

1 team relegated to Div 2

2 teams promoted from Div 2

Division 2

2 teams promoted to Div 1

1 team relegated from Div 1

1 team relegated to Div 3

3 teams promoted from Div 3

Division 3

3 teams promoted to Div 2

1 team relegated from Div 2

1 team relegated to Div 4

3 teams promoted from Div 4

Division 4

3 teams promoted to Div 3

1 team relegated from Div 3

2 new teams

If no new XI’s (teams) join the league to fill the vacancies left by the resignation of West End Esher then the following changes will be implemented regarding promotion and relegation:-

Division 1 and 2 – as above

Division 3

3 teams promoted to Div 2
1 team relegated from Div 2

1 team relegated to Div 4
2 teams promoted from Div 4

Division 4

2 teams promoted to Div 3
1 team relegated from Div 3

Thus ensuring we have nine sides in both Division 3 and Division 4 for next year.

I apologise for the length of this message and I can assure you that we have tried to make this as clear as possible. I am sure you will agree that in the circumstances a decision had to be made now and Clubs given as much notice as possible.
