Breaking News for 2008...
new to the Surrey Downs League for the 2008 Season are Woldingham Village and Netherne's 2nd Team, both will play in Division 4. 6 September 2007

2007 News:
2007 League season all wrapped up..

Division 1 news
Brockham Green Champions
West End Esher Runners Up
Tadworth relegated

Division 2 news
South Nutfield Champions
Runners Up Old Woking

North Holmwood relegated

Division 3 news
Salfords Champions
Ockham runners up
Nutfield third

HOWEVER - Both Ockham and Nutfield 1st XI’s will play in Division Two next year so the 2nd XI’s cannot be promoted.

Therefore Headley Old Freemens 2nd and Newdigate 2nd, who finished fourth and fifth, will be promoted to Division Two.

East Horsley relegated

Division 4
Netherne Champions
Westcott runners up
Salfords third

All three of the above teams will be promoted and play in Division Three next year.

1 Sept 2007 - words from Ian & Tony

email from Ian - our Division 1 & 2 Result secretary
Coming up to the final weekend several promotion/relegation and title issues remain in doubt and it is possible that one or more teams will be tied on points after the final games. In this situation the league committee has agreed the following rules will be applied to decide which team is placed higher:

1) highest average points per completed match (thus drawn games will count but not abandoned (before 65 overs) or cancelled games). All penalty points, regardless of when or why they were incurred, will count in the calculation.

If two teams are still level after this then:
2) higher points total in the two matches between the two sides involved.
3) most matches won during the season.

Points average has been chosen in recognition of the fact that the weather has meant that not all teams have completed the same number of matches. If calculating averages is beyond you, it simply means the side that has taken fewer completed matches to acquire the same number of points gets the higher place. The second rule is straightforward and used widely in both football and cricket. Hopefully rule three won't be needed but there is one possible case where it could be so we have added it in.

Hope this is clear; with a bit of luck none of it will be needed. If anyone wants clarification on Saturday, or has problems phoning in results, my mobile ( Ian I.Slaiding ) will be on: (07914242249.
