Our Surrey Downs League Senior Representative Team Catch out Surrey Seniors:
Surrey Downs League Seniors v Surrey Seniors.
Thursday July 28 2011
Catches win Matches. This was never more true than in the match against the Surrey Seniors XI played at Westcott Cricket Club. The League side dismissed eight batsman with catches.
Winning the toss and deciding to bat first the League got off to a very slow start scoring only 50 runs for 3 wickets in the first 20 overs of a 40 over match. However Bill Munday (65) and Mike Armitage (40) pushed the score along. Bill scoring 50 off 49 balls. With a few lusty blows from the tail end the League reached 173 for 8.
The Surrey Seniors had an even slower start with their first five batsmen scoring only 10 runs between them. Nigel Shaw 4 for 23 and Iain Barker 2 for 37 taking the early wickets. Skipper Mike Byford (70) and Clive Higgins (22) took the score along and with the help of the lower order batsmen reduced the target to 3 runs per over off the last 8 eight overs. Bill Munday (Horsley & Send CC) taking 3 for 33 off 8 overs. The introduction of John Callcut (Newdigate CC) who with his first ball tempted Mike Byford into a lofted drive over mid on. Waiting on the boundary to take the catch was David Lines (Holmwood CC) who safely pouched his third catch of the innings and the League won by 26 runs, the Surrey Seniors having scored 147.
Thanks to Westcott for hosting the fixture, to John Smith and Justin Thomas for umpiring and to Worcester Park for providing the scorer.
