"Sam Stevenson no boundaries in Botswana with Cricket without Boundaries" Friend, Parent and Member of Tadworth Cricket Club - Sam Stevenson is set to deliver AIDS awareness and deliver some cricket coaching in Botswana with the UK based charity Cricket Without Boundaries. "Happy New Year, hope you are well.
I have been selected for an AIDS awareness project in Botswana with Cricket Without Boundaries in April, so I wonder if I could possibly put something in the newsletter/website and get you to follow us on Twitter?
The CEO of the Botswana Cricket Board has asked me if I could possibly get my hands on any books/DVDs about cricket, especially for boys/girls and for Umpiring, so if anyone has any they no longer need, that would be fab.
I would also love to collect lots of crayola style crayons to take out with me, as we will be visiting an orphanage and some very poor areas. Crayons are great, as they don’t need sharpening, and the kids absolutely love them… , So if the colts/parents could donate some that would be fab.
I’ve just had my training weekend – you would be very amused to see me play cricket, but apparently I am now competent to coach it…God help them…!
Thanks very much, see you soon
Sam Stevenson email to Paul 23 January 2012 Sam has her own Justgiving Page and is due to visit Botswana - April 2012. April Update: email from Sam Well I’m packed and ready to go - I have a suitcase full of clothes for the orphanage, cricket kit and a stack of crayons, and I think I might just be organised….(except where are my malaria tablets?!!)
As official team blogger, I will be providing daily updates (internet access allowing!), so please do follow our exploits at http://cwbblogs.com/botswana2012/. Building awareness of the charity is just as important as the work we’ll be doing out in Botswana, so I’d be really grateful if you could help spread the word by liking us on Facebook and following us on twitter (@CWB_Botswana @CWBafrica).
Last but not least, I’d like to thank everyone who has sponsored me – my corporate sponsors Twenty20 Cricket Company, Swordfighting International, My Secret Kitchen and Shewee, plus my very generous friends and family, all of whom have made this trip possible.
If you were intending to sponsor me but just hadn’t gotten around to it, you still can - you can either visit my JustGiving page , or you can simply text CWBS74 £(amount) To: 70070.
Thanks again, keep watching the blog, and see you when I get back! Sam xxx email: 14 April 2012
Sam departed for Botswana - Saturday 14 April 2012. March 2012 Update:
Some background to Cricket Without Boundaries: The Cricket Without Boundaries Trust was established in April 2005 by founder-trustees Andy Hobbs, Chris Kangis and Ed Williams. It is a registered charity in the UK, number 1111316, operating under the name of Cricket Without Boundaries ("CWB").
CWB has three main goals: ■To spread cricket through coaching children and teaching adults how to coach; and ■To link the sport to HIV/AIDS awareness and incorporate these messages into coaching sessions. ■To bring together and empower local communities through cricket.
Working in partnership with the Cricket Associations in each country, the relevant British High Commissions and the ICC, we (Cricket without Boundaries) follow a simple, 3 stage, sports development structure to try to ensure some form of sustained development of the game: 1) coach education; 2) Schools coaching, and 3) Tournament.
Our coach education takes the form of teaching the adults the basics of cricket through the ICC's Introduction to Cricket course (which includes coaching, umpiring and scoring) as well as for moredeveloped coaches delivering the ICC's level 1 and 2 awards. We try to link our coaching in with each National Cricket Association's existing development plans. In 2008 we signed a memorandum of understanding with Rwanda Cricket Association, committing to 5 years of support from CWB if the RCA meets it's own development goals.
CWB is currently committed to sending projects to at least 4 African countries on a twice yearly basis. We send out first rate volunteers and coaches to help support and develop coaching and playing infrastructure by offering coach education, basic equipment as well as enthusing a new generation of African cricket players.
We have visited 8 countries in Africa, delivering 23 projects, in the process training over 1700 new coaches and bringing the game to over 20,000 children and helping bring communities together through the fantastic game of cricket. Last reviewed and updated by Paul Griffiths 12 January 2012 |
