Tadworth 2 - 44 all out
Woldingham 1 - 46 for 2
Woldingham won by 8 wickets
Tadworth 2nds must have been quietly confident having convincingly
beaten Albury last week who in turn chased and scored over 240 beating
todays hosts Woldingham the week before. How wrong can you be.
Put into bat Tadworth put on 17 for the first wicket, disappointing
until you hear how the rest of the afternoon went. The 17 runs scored
turned out to be Tadworths biggest partnership of the innings and the
only player worth mentioning, Gary Sewell was part of that partnership.
Gary hit 21 which at the time seemed not a lot but it ended up over twice as many runs as anyone else in the team got on what was a disasterous afternoon.
At 44 Tadworth were all out with man of the match, Woldinghams opening bowler Hamilton taking 7 for 15. Tadworths batting was worse than poor and if Lady Hamilton had been bowling I feel sure she would have picked up a few wickets, and when you consider that shes been dead for nearly 2000 years it doesnt say a lot for our batting.
Credit however where its due, Hamilton did bowl well
but hopefully we learned something and when they come down to Tadworth
later in the season we can show them we are not pushovers.
At least John Ryan benefitted he found some new material for his next
Quiz Night-
Q. What do you call a Tadworth 2nd X1 player who survives more than 3
deliveries ?
A. A batsman
Q. What has the longest tail ? An Australian marsupial or Tadworth
Cricket Club 2nd X1.
Answers on a postcard please.
Back to the cricket, Woldingham had littlle difficulty reaching the
target losing only 2 wickets in the process.
The home side collected 5 bonus points for their bowling but for their batting got "nil points" sorry should have said no points, thats what happens when you get home in time to watch the Eurovision Song Contest, which incidently lasted longer than the cricket match.
One good thing, we did not damage the square this
week it was as good after the game as it was before we started, there
was a complaint however that our "batsmen" had formed a path a metre
wide between the pavillion and the stumps failing to give t the grass
time to recover.
Maybe we shouldnt sent this one to the Surrey Mirror, I did in fact get
someone else to write it for me.
Hugh Miliated.
Whats in a name anyway.

Tadworth 232-4 dec
Newdigate 161-9
Winning draw to Tadworth
On a warm, dry day at Tadworth, Tadworth skipper Grierson had
no hesitation on winning the toss and electing to bat. Unfortunately,
Grierson (0) and Tim Bennett (6) were both out cheaply, but Richard
Bennett (22), with a lot of help from the Tadworth middle order, would
steady the ship and put Tadworth in a commanding position in the match.
Fine batting displays from Stevenson (59), capitalising on his recent
good form, and Waldron saw Tadworth’s total pass 143-3 with a
partnership of 91. Once Stevenson was out caught at cover, Lawry (54*)
came to the crease, and together with Waldron (67*) put on a superb 89
run partnership in just 12 overs to see Tadworth’s total reach 232-4 off
42 overs.
After tea, it was Newdigate’s turn to try and reach the large target set
by Tadworth, and they seemingly settled for a draw from the start.
However, once the first wicket fell, Newdigate batsman Harris opened his
shoulders to score a brisk 23, and for a short while Tadworth were
worried.
However, once Tadworth opening bowler Hardy (3-40) removed Harris,
Newdigate shut up shop, and this, along with some good bowling from
Tadworth bowlers Castle (3-27) and Jenkins (1-60), kept the Newdigate
score to a minimum.
Unfortunately for Tadworth, the win eluded them, and despite taking the
9th wicket with 7 overs to spare, Newdigate finished on 161-9. Credit
must go to the two final Nedigate batsmen, Fox (11*) and Trower (13*),
who batted very well to save their team from defeat.
